Samsung’s first all-screen smartphone is inching closer to completion.
It’s emerged that Samsung has reached a new milestone in the development of its first sound-emitting OLED screen, which transmits audio through the screen itself rather than an earpiece speaker, bringing commercialisation forward to 2019.
You know what that means, right? Samsung may be preparing to debut the tech on the Galaxy S10 – rumoured to be announced in March 2019 – so there’s a chance that could be its first all-screen smartphone, as corroborated by recent reports.
To add more fuel to the speculation-filled fire, this latest report notes that the sound-emitting OLED Samsung is working on measures in at 6.2-inches, which just so happens to be the same sized screen the Galaxy S10 is tipped to ship with.
Samsung has one significant hurdle to overcome before it can release an all-screen handset, however. It first needs to find a location to house the front-facing camera and the sensors required for its popular iris-scanning authentication feature.
To that end, it’s more likely that the firm will use its advancement in the sound-emitting OLED department to reduce the size of the bezels on the Galaxy S10, while it trials new locations and alternative designs for all the front-mounted sensors.
